Q: Where and When is this event?

Q: What events are offered at the Reaching for the Cure Half Marathon event?

A: There are 5 race-weekend options, as well as a fabulous finish-line festival and kids' activities to entertain the entire family:

SUNDAY, RUN/WALK EVENTS

7:00AM - Reaching for the Cure Half Marathon (13.1 miles/timed)                            

7:15AM - Orange Aluminum 5K Run (3.1 miles/timed)

7:45AM - Seyfarth Shaw 10K Run (6.2 miles/timed)

9:30AM - Cox Castle & Nicholson 5K Walk (3.1 miles/untimed)

11:00AM - 1K kids’ fun run  (untimed)

Q: When is Packet Pickup?

A: Participants can pick up their packets, goodie bags and bibs race weekend at Irvine Valley College:

Saturday, March 24th 10:00am - 2:00pm

Sunday, March 25th 6:00am

A: Upgrade your registration and join our new Bike Partner, Renegade Racing’s Saddleback Spring Classic Gran Fondo! This ride has a distance for you no matter what your experience or fitness level may be. This is the perfect training weekend for triathletes or anyone wanting to really see what they are made of while “Pedaling to Cure Pediatric Cancer”. All “Brick” participants get a commemorative “Brick” with plaque: “I did a Brick to Help Cure Pediatric Cancer”.

Q: How do I register?

A: There are four different ways to register:

- ONLINE - visit www.reachingforthecure.org and click on the "Register Now" button. Please note that the earlier you register, the more you save!

- BY MAIL/FAX* - Fill out a printable registration form (coming soon) and mail to: PCRF, 9272 Jeronimo, Suite 122, Irvine, CA 92618.

- IN PERSON* - You may also register at packet pick-up

- OVER THE PHONE - You can call our offices at 949-859-6312 and we can help register single participants

*One form is required for each participant - you can make copies of the form or you can request one from PCRF (949)-859-6312 or admin@pcrf-kids.org).

Q: How do I find out specific event details and course maps?

A: Course maps for the Half Marathon, 10K, 5K and 1K events are available, click here!

Q: Are vendor opportunities available for the Finish Line Activities area?

A: Yes, vendor opportunities are available. Updates are being made to the 2018 Expo application, please check back soon or contact our Events Director for up-to-date information and pricing. Please email earreola@pcrf-kids.org or call the PCRF office at (949) 859-6312.

Q: Can I pick up my race packet on the day of the event?

A: Yes, you can pick up your race packet at the pre-registration tables up to 15 minutes prior to your event.

Q: Can someone else pick up my race packet for me?

A: Yes, if you are picking up for a team member who has pre-registered for the event, you can pick up their packet. Simply bring a signed note saying, "I Name allow for Name to pick up my race packet." The person picking up your packet will just have to show a photo ID. As for parents of young children - no you do not need a photo ID to pick up your kid's stuff!

If you are registering someone new that day, they will need to sign the waiver. They can do this in-person or download the waiver from the website and bring it to packet pickup.

Q: Are there age requirements for participation in any of the events?

A: There is no minimum age requirement for any of the running events.

Q: What are the Age Group Division awards set at?

A: Age Group Division Awards are given to the follow age groups in all the timed races (Half Marathon, 5K and 10K):

Men and Women: 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80-84, 85+

Youth:  6-7, 8-9, 10-11, 12-13, 14-15, 16-19

*1K Kids Runs are non-competitive and will be timed but overall and age division awards will not be given.

Q: Are strollers, skates, bikes and pets allowed on the course?

A: Paid registrants may push their infants and toddlers in strollers in any of the events. 

We ask, for safety reasons, that participants do not bring skateboards or other equipment to the event. While we love pets, USATF insurance mandates no dogs or pets are allowed on the course due to safety issues from the large number of participants and spectators expected at the event. 

Q: How many people are expected to participate in the 2018 Reaching for the Cure Events?

A: PCRF expects over 5,000 participants, 2,000 spectators and 600 volunteers.

Q: Are sponsorship opportunities available?

A: There are numerous sponsorship opportunities and levels available. Please contact Erin Arreola for opportunities that best meet your needs - email earreola@pcrf-kids.org or call (949) 859-6312.

Q: How can I volunteer at the Reaching for the Cure?

A: Over 600 volunteers are needed for the weekend on March 25th & 26th. Contact the PCRF office and ask for the Volunteer Coordinator at (949) 859-6312. An online sign up form will be availble in the coming months. 

Q: Is there child care?

A: Although this is a family friendly event, we do not provide child care and ask that you follow normal precautions in caring and monitoring your children.

Bike Event FAQs

Q: How can I sign up to Pedal for Pediatric Cancer?

The Saddleback Spring Classic Gran Fondo is the newly branded bike event connected to the Reaching for the Cure weekend. Renegade Racing is hosting the event in support of PCRF on March 24th. This year you can sign up for your bike race on the PCRF online form, making it easier to join your Reaching for the Cure teams. To learn more about the cycling events, click here.

Run/Walk Event FAQs

Q: Where are the Half Marathon Water Stations:

A: The Half Marathon will have 9 water stations located at miles 1.2, 1.75, 3.05, 4.6, 5.6, 7.0, 8.15, 9.9 and 11.6.

Q: Half Marathon Time Limit

A: Half Marathon starts at 7:00 am. All half marathoners MUST start the race no later than 7:15 am. Late arrivals will not be permitted to officially start the race. The half marathon welcomes runners and walkers that are able to finish the course within a 3.5 hour time limit, requiring a minimum pace of 16 minutes per mile. The course will begin to break down at 10:30 am and the finish line will begin to break down at 11:00 am. Half marathon finishers after 11:00 am will still receive their finisher's award and have their time recorded until 12 pm.

Q: 5K & 10K SPECIFICS

Water Stations

The 5K course will have 3 water stations located at miles 1.2, 1.55 and 2.65. One aid station will offer both water and carbohydrate/electrolyte solution.

The 10K course will have 5 water stations located at miles 1.2, 1.75, 3.05, 4.6 and 5.75 miles. The final two stations will have carbohydrate/electrolyte solution.

All aid stations will have portable restrooms.

Q: Gear Check

Drop off your personal belongings at the GEAR CHECK on your way to the start line (close to registration). Belongings may be picked up after your race beginning. All items must be picked up by 12:30pm. Participants must present their bib number to claim their bag. A limited number of bags will be available for participants but it is recommended participants bring their own bags. Tape and markers will be provided to mark bags. Please do not include items of value including: cell phones, keys, credit cards or money. The race is not responsible for lost or missing items.

Q: What's the BRICK?

A: A brick is a term borrowed from triathlons and refers to someone who completes two activities back to back. Upgrade your registration and join our new Bike Partner, Renegade Racing’s Saddleback Spring Classic Gran Fondo! This ride has a distance for you no matter what your experience or fitness level may be. This is the perfect training weekend for triathletes or anyone wanting to really see what they are made of while “Pedaling to Cure Pediatric Cancer”. All “Brick” participants get a commemorative “Brick” with plaque: “I did a Brick to Help Cure Pediatric Cancer”.

Q: Are there age requirements for participation in any of the race-weekend events?

A: There is no minimum age requirement for any of the running events.

Q: How will the races be timed?

A: The half marathon, 10K and 5K run will be official chip timed races. The 5K walk and 1K fun run are non-timed events.

Q: Are there time limits on the race course?

A: The course for all run events will be open until 11:00 am.

Q: Will there be time clocks and mile markers on each of the courses?

A: There will be mile markers placed at each mile on all courses. However there will not be time clocks along the courses.

Q: Are strollers, skates, bikes and pets allowed on the course?

A: Paid registrants may push their infants and toddlers in strollers in any of the events. We ask, for safety reasons, that participants do not bring skateboards or other equipment to the event. While we love pets, USATF insurance mandates no dogs or pets are allowed on the course due to safety issues from the large number of participants and spectators expected at the event. 

Q: Is the course USATF certified?

A: Yes, the half marathon, 10K and 5K courses are all USA Track and Field certified courses.

Q: Is my registration refundable?

A: We understand that things happen, but the policy for registrations is no refunds.  We are no longer accepting deferrals for next year's race.  You may convert your registration to a tax deductible donation that funds lifesaving pediatric cancer research.
