Gavin was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia on New Year's Day, 2010. He underwent 3 and a half years of treatment and then enjoyed about a year and a half of "normal" childhood before his leukemia returned, this time in his central nervous system as well as his bone marrow. Gavin endured 2 more years of even harsher chemotherapy and radiation, including multiple hospitalizations, but the cancer returned again. He then joined a clinical trial at CHOP (Children's Hospital of Philadelphia) where t-cells were removed from his blood and re-engineered to be super soldiers that attack the cancer. Gavin responded very well to the treatment and the ninja t-cells continue to do their job well, leaving him b-cell free! His reports also came back with 0 MRD (minimum residual disease), meaning that his marrow and CSF have no signs of cancer! Join Team Gavin to support not just this brave fighter, but every child who has lost any part of their childhood to this dreadful disease.
